Monday Milestones

It's officially June 2nd, and I'm trying to start my whole "accountability" thing. I know this is good for me, but it's so hard! But here it goes...

3      Days spent WRITING, plotting, developing character, editing, etc.
 3000  Words written.
 1   Moment of euphoria.
 1   Moment of frustration overcome.
6   Days spent reading a good book.

That is not impressive by any means, but it's not terrible either. At least I made progress and moved forward, and now that I am off work for the summer, maybe... just maybe ... I can make some better progress.

My plan is to get more organized and try set aside a certain amount of time each day (at a certain time each day) where I can write. I hate to admit it, but this may involve getting up early! Ugh! Oh, how I cherish my sleep! But it would be worth it!

Do you find it hard to be accountable for your progress? How do you manage your writing time each week?

That last part made me smile. Gotta keep our priorities straight, right? And progress is progress. :D

Moving forward - no matter how small or few the steps - is better than going backward! :)

I think 3,000 words is impressive. I had to write an article on this for a client recently--keeping a log of what you're doing has been found to make you more successful. Publishing that information publicly ups your chances of success in a huge way. Maybe we could all learn from that! I used to have a widget on my blog that tracked my progress...that really made me stay on track.

Way to go. I think that's fabulous progress. My problem tends to be more ripping myself away from my computer to do real life stuff because I'm addicted to writing. It's hard sometimes.

Sounds like you're making progress. In general, I like to keep a list of things of what needs to be done and prioritize when I have too much like right now.

I love this breakdown so you get a visual of your accomplishments for the week. Prioritizing is so hard! Yay for 3,000 words!!

You're doing well! Words on the page is a win. At the moment, I'm doing a weekly tweet of progress updates on my WIP. It's a little bit of accountability! Yep, early mornings are coming with summer... if you've got kiddywinks it's kind of inevitable, unless you can get them to remain monkishly silent! I've been so used to getting up early for years that it works quite well, though.

3000 words isn't bad at all! That is approximately 2700 more words than I have managed lol!

I haven't written anything new for so long, I think I've forgotten how to do it! 3000 words sounds really good to me.

Awesome! I love the concept of being accountable for your writing. Usually I just report to my husband, who greets my updates with glazed-over eyes. Thank goodness for a blogging community who really "gets it."
And I agree with the other comments - 3000 words rocks!

Your progress is nothing to take lightly. You made steps in various aspects of reading and writing, things that make writers better writers. So good on you for making progress and for holding yourself accountable to trying each day.

I tend to do the night owl thing, getting in a social media workout, a bit of editing on a couple of manuscripts and thus far, no new words on my much-needed-to-get-started-on third book in my Shadow Jumpers trilogy. But in the darkness, my laptop holds back just enough of the shadows so I'll keep trying.

That's pretty close to my progress, too! I had a few good days and got a lot of words down, then got sidetracked again.
Good job on your 3000 words!

I've mentioned having a writing buddy to report progress to when you need to get things done. Your way works, as well, if not better.

Question: If you posted on your blog three times a week, would you turn one of those days into "progress report day" or would you just blog an extra day?

Way to go, Leigh! The hardest part about accountability is getting yourself to start it and - hey! - you did!!
