Soup...

Having spent the entire weekend with sick kids and them being able to eat nothing but soup... that's pretty much all that's on my mind.
SOUP!

I grabbed soup and sandwiches at a local sandwich shop for lunch on Saturday. I got broccoli and cheese while my daughter ate chicken noodle. And the soup was pretty good, but I started to realize... I HATE SOUP!

Okay, maybe hate is a harsh word. I dislike soup. Homemade soup is pretty decent. I can at least tolerate it most of  the time, but canned soup is barf-on-me-grosstastic! I really only eat Campbell's Chicken Noodle when I'm sick, and that's it.

However, I really hate trying to "JUST" eat soup. It doesn't work. There is no way it can possibly fill me up! I need bread with it and lots of it! Bring on the carbs and empty calories, I don't care! I love that stuff!

The funny thing is that some will look at this as a flaw, while others will completely agree with me. And that's what makes us unique individuals! We all have our quirks, flaws and strengths.

And, as a writer, I particularly love finding a character with an unusual quirk or character trait. Those are some of favorite to read... and to write!

How about you?

Life is a reflection of your thoughts.
Apparently, my life will reflect negatively on soup. Hopefully better on other things though!

First I love the new header!

I personally love soup. Because of that I would NEVER eat anything pre-made or from a can. I always make it myself and it's nummy.

Sorry you're sick. We went through that last weekend and it's no fun.

I love soup, as does my hubby. We both have our own specialties. He's banned from making butternut squash soup. Whenever he makes it, he screws it up. The only reason I didn't complain last time was because I couldn't taste anything with my cold. :D

I'll only eat soup if we have interesting bread to eat with it. And then I'm only really eating the soup so I can have the bread. I'm with you, it's just not substantial enough to call a proper meal!

Soup must have bread...and I love it!

I hate soup, too. However, soup with a grilled cheese sandwich is another story. I also love characters with an interesting quirk.

I have to be in the mood for soup and only on cold days.

Hi Leigh .. gosh sick kids too - oh dear .. we used to fed on bovril and toast ...

I love soup if I'm given it .. decent quality home-made variety preferably .. but then I'd enjoy the gorge on the delicious bread and butter to go with it!! Not good ..

I don't find it fills me up - but it was all I wanted when I was ill recently ..

Feel better - cheers Hilary

I love soup, either homemade or from the restaurant (provided I know they didn't use meat broth). It tastes even better with those little soup nuts.

I used to hate soup, but then I discovered Panera. That place has some extremely fresh and delicious soup. French onion with amazing cheese, broccoli and cheese, and creamy tortilla is the BOMB baby. Umm, I'm really hungry right now!

Love the new look!

My kids agree with you. To them, soup is an appetizer, not a meal!

Love the header too. Great colors.

I like soup. Canned is okay, but homemade better of course.

Chicken tortilla soup is my fave. Got hooked on that from the Ground Round restaurant. Now I make it myself.

One good thing about winter is soup season. :)

Oh my gosh. This reminds me of Arturo Trejo singing I Hate Soup! LOL

Hope your family is all better soon!

We are trying to eat healthier so once a week we have soup and salad for dinner. Soup is not my favorite, but it'll do. But when I feel ill, nothing tastes better than chicken noodle soup!

I like soup-mostly because I can throw a whole bunch of food into a pot and call it dinner...but it has to be hardy- lots of stuff, not just tomatoes or a few noodles and chicken. And yes, I love characters that are quirky and fun...something that makes them different from all the others out there:) Hope everyone is feeling better in your house. Have a great day:)

Soup is a very versatile dish. Definitely add what you like to enhance it. I love character quirks too.

I don't mind soup, but I love your new look! ;)

I love soups, especially if they're homemade. But when I'm sick, I really like raemen (spelling error everywhere) noodles. I feel like I'm getting super hydrated...(and they're cheap)

Soup, I like (most of the time). French Onion = awesome. It's perfect on a cold day :)

Your blog is looking FIERCE :)

I love soup. I have it for lunch almost every day! I think my favorite combo is tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich *drools*

I'm totally with you on the soup thing! By itself - not a meal! And canned soup tastes... canned! But real homemade soup can be pretty good - my mom makes GREAT turkey rice soup after Thanksgiving and Christmas! :) Hope everyone in your house is feeling better!

We make a number of meaty-vegetable soups, so I heart soup! I hope everyone feels better now.

Haha, I do hate campbell's chicken noodle, but I love me a good tomato soup when I add all the right herbs and lots of cheese. Bring on the bread baby, and lots of it!

I like character quirks, too! Though I have one character that hiccoughs when she's nervous, and I've had reader comments it drives them crazy. Can't please 'em all, unfortunately.

Oh my gosh, Leigh. I'm shocked!!!! I could eat soup every day for the rest of my life! LOL. Too funny! But totally agree with the character quirks---clever post! And gosh, we've been hit hard too... I hope you feel better soon. This sickness lasts weeks!

We've been sick for three weeks solid! So I feel your pain sister :) When we are all sick I feel like my house is over run with Gatorade, so that drink always reminds me of the flu.

Get well soon :)

Cute new look for your blog!!! And I'm with you, my fave part about soup is the BREAD to dip in it, lol!! Bleh to being sick. No Fun!! Hope you get better soon!

You are so right that quirks breathe life into a character. And soup? I love soup.

Patricia T. said...

I don't see it as a quirk or a flaw, but a difference. I happen to love soups and cook at least two different one's a week. Especially in the cold weather. I always get your blog in my e-mail box a day late. I must remember to check every Monday.

I'm kinda on the other side of this. Soup is one of those things I don't think to fix, but when I do, I like it more than I thought I would. But I agree --unless it's packed with noodles- one needs bread or crackers to make it filling.

Hope you all feel better soon.

I like homemade soup, but I have to admit soup out just makes me sad because I can't eat the bread they always serve with it (gluten doesn't like me). Love the new blog look Leigh!

Hope the kids are feeling better, and that you're okay too. I really like soup, but I also need a roll or a bagel and lots of crackers with it too. I have the same problem with salad.

I'm pretty easy with soup as long as it's not the really cheap stuff. I'm too lazy to make my own! My local supermarket does some plastic tubs with some pretty nice flavours in them...

Hope everyone's feeling better!

I like quirks too. :)

My homemade chicken noodle soup is awesome, and I'm not a soup lover either.

I hope you and yours are feeling better, and I love your new look!

Love the new blog look. ;) And I love when authors show characters little quirks. My current MC doesn't like movies or musicians that are alive. But she loves soup. Especially her mom's yummy clam chowder.

Your blog is super cute! :)
I've been sick for six days now. I totally am ready to be back to normal and not sniffling and sleeping sitting up anymore. I hope your kids get feeling better too. I'm not a soup fan either. I like bread bowls though. Numms!

Trisha F said...

I don't really like soup either. If I have to have any it MUST be home made, by mum preferably. She makes a good butternut pumpkin soup. Still, I'd rather eat many other things than soup!

One I could always enjoy though is a good miso soup.

Kathryn Purdie said...

I'm not a fan of canned soup either, but I do love homemade beef stew and homemade chicken noodle soup--with breadsticks, of course!
