Addicted?

Hello!!!
I'm going to set a goal to post every Monday! And that gives me an entire week to visit blogs before I have to worry about my next post! Whoot!

Now on to today's post

Do you have a bookshelf that looks like this? Maybe even more cluttered? The top two shelves are my books. The bottom two are my kids. I also have a bookshelf in my office with more of my books and some in my crawl space waiting for me to put them on the bookshelf.

This morning I was listening to the radio on my way to work and they were talking about the different kinds of "support groups" that are available. And it's amazing how many are out there beside the well known, AA and NA and other such things.

There is actually a support group for people that READ TOO MUCH! ha! I didn't know such a thing was possible, but apparently if it takes you away from the responsibilities of your everyday life, ... ALWAYS... then it's considered a problem. I still have to giggle. I could probably join this group, but instead I'd rather be part of the awesome writing community sharing all the awesome books that I get to READ!!!

Wouldn't you? Personally, I am very thankful for my books. I love them. I love when my kids pull them down to read them. I love finding a new one and adding it to the library. Are you thankful for your books? What does your bookshelf look like?

I'm planning on doing a post soonish where I show people my bookshelves...ALL MY BOOKSHELVES. yes, I have a problem. But I've really slowed down on the book buying lately. I will keep buying books, I just need to pass on some pre-loved ones to maybe a used bookstore or something, to make more room. ;)

Let me know where the meetings are. :)

I don't have one dedicated bookshelf for my books. The kid have a very messy one. But I've got some books in my computer room. Some on a little bookshelf in my bedroom. Library books are usually piled up on my dresser or floor. So they're all over.

I would love to have a house with a room with a bookshelf/wall! Probably won't happen, but I can dream.

Anything in excess isn't good, but with reading you can push that line pretty far.
My shelf is organized because it's on my iPad!

My books are all over the place - some on shelves, some stored away in the attic, some in random places around the house! I am glad for my Kindle because I always know where my ebooks are! :D

I've got a wall of bookshelves in my living room that hold my husband's books and mine but let's be real - most of them are mine. :) And that's not counting the books in the other rooms of the house! I recently did a giveaway of the books I no longer "love" and will soon send them off to good homes.

Many addictions are debilitating but when it comes to books addiction, if we must use that word, is a very good thing.

Lovely post, Leigh! I am an addict to literature, for sure. I love books!
Your book-shelf looks like mine. Cute pic.

Julia Hones said...

I should have said "addicted to literature" or an "addict of literature". Oops!

I know people who read too much because they can't have a conversation with anyone. They have become too secluded. I also know these people are few and far between, and since we have talked to each other, I'm certain you are safe.

Hahahaha! That's *so* my bookshelf...

I just need to read more...

That bookshelf is not so bad.
Some of my bookshelves are two deep...actually most of my bookshelves are two deep. And no, my kids books aren't allowed on my bookshelves. Kids books have their own bookshelves.

I might have a problem. ;)

My shelves look the same! And now we're moving and the thought of boxing all those lovelies up and dragging them to another state makes me exhausted!....BUT I'd won't give them up! ;)

I'm just going to say I'm not ready to admit to my addiction then, because reading is the best addiction to have!!! I love your bookshelf! It looks so much like mine:) I'm trying to use the Kindle more, but it just isn't anything like a real book!

Hi. My name is Cristina and I have a book addiction!!! LOL

My bookshelves are a horrible mess. I have shelves in four rooms and they are all cluttered and dusty. A bit like my thinking. :)

Glad you're back! See you next Monday. :)

Bookaholics, huh? I can kind of relate--if it takes over our lives to the exclusion of other things. You know, like family, work, etc. ;)

Happy Thanksgiving!

I love books! I'm always buying books for my kids, but I've slowed down recently because of lack of space. Plus we go to the library every week anyway, so that cuts down on book-buying. Still, when those Scholastic book order forms show up in my house, my kids go ballistic and I end up purchasing more books I really, really don't have room for. Oh well. I'm just glad my kids love to read as much as I do. It's a WIN!

I actually took pictures of my bookshelves, at least as they existed before I packed everything up, moved out, and then had to move back a few months later. I arranged them mostly by author and subject, and put a lot of my big, juicy historical sagas together, like Herman Wouk's novels and Leon Uris's novels. I don't have much on the bookshelf I'm allowed now, and the majority of my books are in storage in my so-called fiancé's parents' basement. At least I still have a few of my most beloved books with me, like my Russian dictionary, The Tao Te Ching, The Decameron, and The Divine Comedy.

My bookshelf is not nearly that neat. We've got books ALL OVER the house. I like your new profile pic, btw. :)

I may need that support group... but I love to read sooo much! haha My bookshelf looks like that too :)

We would make a horrible group for reading addicts. We're all enablers! LOL

Fun post, Leigh. My shelves most definitely resembled yours! Now all my books are stored in boxes at my dad's and I am missing them already!

Mmmhmmm ipad shelves FTW.

If that is a real addiction, bring it on baby. I'll enable you if you will enable me :)

I don't know if I have a problem, but I tend to buy books and not give them away. When I start to put them on the shelves two deep, I box some up and make room for more. Maybe I do have a problem. :P

Nicole said...

My shelves look like that!

I think I'd need a support group if I DIDN'T get enough reading time. ;)

Bookshelf? I dream of having a bookshelf! My books are still mostly stacked in boxes in a closet. They were the last things to get unpacked last time we moved house - years after the move - and the same has happened this time :(

It's good to see you posting again. I dare not photograph and display my bookshelves (and yes, that's plural.) The largest is actually build into the wall, stands taller than I do and is about a dozen or so feet wide. If I've read them all then do I qualify for a support group? ;-)

I have beautiful custom built book shelves in my office where I managed to place some of my reference books and autographed copies of my writer friends books. Hubby grabbed most of the shelf space for his collection of vintage Playboy magazines. ::sigh::

My bookshelves look WAY worse than that! :) Not to mention the piles of books on the floor... :)

i have stashes
here a stack, there a stack, everywhere a stack, stack!
when they've been read, they usually get traded or donated...so i am a reader wannabe! i wanna be reading more!

Lynn(e) Schmidt said...

I just started clearing out my storage unit because I can't afford it anymore. 80% of it was books. I was so frustrated that I literally almost went to donate them or try to sell them to the local used bookstore.

Then I realized, who am I kidding? I can't let go of them!

Coleen Patrick said...

Yes I have shelves that look just like yours! I guess you can become addicted to anything--but reading seems kind of harmless (and awesome) if you ask me! :)

michelle said...

A support group for people who read too much? Sounds weird... *chuckles*
I love my paperbacks/hard copies... the smell of a new book is-------- (well, you know what I mean)

Shallee said...

I LOVE my books. LOVE. :) And my bookshelf is a disaster. I keep getting more and more books, and have no room on my shelf! They're all just crammed in there.

Sheena-kay Graham said...

Yeah...I wouldn't join that group even if family members dragged me there. Reading Addict and proud! Have a great week Leigh!

Lisa Regan said...

That addiction doesn't hurt anyone! LOL. I used to have so many books we used them for furniture. Thank God for e-readers. I heart my books! Always have!

Jennifer Ruth Jackson said...

Books are an escape from reality, or the interest in a better one, for me. I didn't know there was a group for those who read all the time.

Interesting, though I don't need it, yet.
