"L" is for Losing It!!!

I won't lie... I'm losing it!

As a writer, how important is your computer to you? Mine? Well, it's absolutely essential! It's like my right hand! And when it's not working... well - you understand, right?

The people (whom I should name, but won't!) that screwed up my computer are on a very bad list.

I have finally taken my computer to someone new and updated him on things. He has done a lot of work for my in-laws on their computer and they have been happy with it. So why didn't I go to him before? *rolls eyes* Because who does what their in-laws do? *shakes head, giggles*

The worst part is... it's really starting to get to me! Yes- my eye is starting to twitch again! Do you have any idea how annoying that is? GRRR!

I'm sure that somehow I will make it through, but it's getting rough. My life is on that computer. My book is on that computer - my child's birthday invitations were on there! Now I had to go buy some at Walmart! GRRRRRR!

I will be doing my best to visit your blogs from my phone, but bear with me, while I impatiently wait for my computer to come back to me!

So... how important is your computer to you? Would you be losing your stripes and developing an involuntary twitch? Maybe I need a therapy group, just for writers!

We are amazingly reliant on them, to the point where it's hard to imagine managing without, but people somehow did for thousands of years! *scratches head*

I know exactly what you mean and have posted on the same subject today (L for laptop). My main beef is my laptop is a few years old so the connection can be slow and often freezes. It's been completely repaired once and don't think it's been the same since. Hope yours comes back good as new - it's certainly a busy month for us bloggers!

I finally got a new laptop about three years ago, when my six-year-old was just too slow to keep going. I brought the old one to get the pin that connects to the charger fixed, and they called me a few days later and said there was a short in the power cord and the motherboard fried. No kidding, I think I cried. That laptop was like my baby, and even though I'd already moved everything important, I didn't want to it be *dead*. I made them put it all back together and give it back to me anyway.

Turned out that was a good thing, and I found a year or so later when I needed a laptop in a pinch. Turned out they didn't fry the motherboard. They fried the battery. One is a $700 piece of equipment, the other is $60. Needless to say, I don't go to that computer repair place anymore.

Did you email yourself a copy of your ms so you can access it anywhere? Does your library have computers you can use? Mine does.

Cristina said...

Oh Leigh, I would go postal for sure. yikes, my biggest fear is that my computer will crash and I'll loose my writing, so I try to remember to back it up every so often.

Hope yours gets fixed soon.... and did you go ape s*#t on them???

Like you, my life is on my computer. I have everything backed up, though. I've learned the hard way that losing everything is the worst possible feeling in the world. THE. WORST. Luckily I can find my way around things so I never need a repair guru to look after me. I do my own repairs! :)

That sucks!
My computer isn't as important as air and food, but it's up there. Fortunately, I know how to fix them.

Very important. We lost both our computers to viruses at the same time about a month ago. They were recoverable, but I was computerless for about a week. Every time I'd walk by our computer room, I'd get the urge to go jump on. Which I couldn't cause they were not there.

I used the library computers for the first time, which was very inconvenient. But I had little choice. I hope that never happens again.

First of all: I love love love your blog header!!! So cute!

Second: I'm a new follower from the AtoZ challenge - - how have I not followed you before? :)

Third: I would sit down and cry if my computer sputtered its last breath. I can't live without it.

I hate eye twitches! I'm sorry about your computer. I'm completely dependent on mine. I know I need to go into a 12 step program but I just don't want to cure myself. Hope it all turns out all right.

I feel for you. I had to blog on my iphone for a week in the UK and it was frustratingly slow. Felt like pure luxury to get back to my laptop.

Hope they get things fixed for you soon. They have your (writer) life in their hands!

Are you kidding me? No computer? I don't really want to think about it...I'm starting to lose it...

Hope you get yours fixed soon, Leigh. :)

Oh my God, I would absolutely LOSE IT (more!) if something happened to my computer. When things go weird or slow, I obsess until they're fixed. I can't imagine life without it.

I can't handle it when my computer is broken. All my friends live in there!! Hopefully it will get fixed soon!

Oh, I feel for you! I would be losing it as well. I hate to admit how reliant I am on my laptop, but I'd be lost without it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your issues will be resolved soon.

Ugh! Being computerless has to be super annoying. Ugh, again!

I got so sick and tired of my old and very slow laptop (well, it was a 2006, what was I to expect?) that I splurged and bought a new one a couple months ago. It has been fast sailing since then.

I hope you can get back into the swing of things soon.

And great zebra pic. haha

I would be losing my strips too. I hope they get it fixed soon, so you can get your eye to stop twitching.

Kay girl. I've got an extra laptop I'm bringing you. It's missing a few buttons but it still works. Trust me, you aren't the only one who's going crazy that you don't have a computer!

Leibby, come back to us!!!

Oh poor computer. I hope it gets better soon.

OH MAN!!! I totally feel for you, Leigh, that SUCKS!!! Hang in there, and I hope you get it fixed soon! I seriously couldn't live without my computer either! If I were closer, I'd lend you my little laptop. It's slow, but it works!

Carrie Butler said...

Oh man. I wouldn't have any stripes at all! I'd be stumbling around, twitching, muttering to myself...

That didn't help, did it?

Ahem. Here's to hoping it gets fixed soon! :)

This would definitely annoy me! It's a little sad how much of my life is tied up in computers these days...sigh. Hope yours gets back to life soon!

Sorry to hear about your computer. I just became a follower, but really don't know how I missed your site before! I have seen you leave comments in the same circles but have never caught you up before.

I've heard so many stories like yours that I continually save and back stuff up so I have like 37 copies of the same manuscript lying around. I think I have a post for "O" as in obsessive!

Susanna Leonard Hill said...

I TOTALLY understand! My computer is in desperate need of a visit to someone who knows what they're doing, but I can't bear to part with it. Meanwhile, it's making a noise that can only be a harbinger of doom, is way slow, and won't attach anything to outgoing email! Technology - can't live with it, can't live without it :)

Cindy Keen Reynders said...

Eye twitching = bad ju ju! I freak out when my computer is on the fritz. Recently the mouse on my laptop died, and that even put me in the category of "frantic." Hang in there! This too shall pass.

I live in dread of my laptop going bad. It's over six years old,,too. Your post has made me realize how important it is to download the info on it. Thanks for sharing your hard luck story, it helped me.

I would totally be loosing my mind and go postal if I didn't have my lap top. :)

I took my computer to the hospital when I had surgery. Four days without it? Not gonna happen.
